Railen Rossëvirin

They met after she had met her husband, but Shadow swears that if she had met Railen first, her path would have been very different. She often spent her time wondering what life would have been like if she had met him first. Don’t get her wrong, she loved Suriel, loved the time they had together, but Railen he was her Myhidr. Railen understood her where no others did, he was the one that she was closest to. He was her joy and laughter in the dark loneliness of her marriage. He was always there, a shoulder when she needed to cry, the one that brought the care freeness in her…the one that was her Wanwa Mela, her Lost Love.

There had been many times when she wanted to feel his touch, wondered what it would be like to lay in his arms.... wanted to feel him against her. But never did she try to know. They kept a distance between them that kept them both safe, not knowing how they truly felt, only knowing what they said.

A twist of fate brought them together, one that she once thought was cruel, but looking back she realized that if hadn’t been for Railen she would have committed suicide. The twist of fate came as a twisted ankle that left her immobile and ended with them admitting their feelings and finding each other…and loosing each other at the same time. Both of them moved on with their lives shortly after, Shadow returning to her husband and losing track of Railen. She missed him greatly.

They met again under different circumstances when something was wrong with a mutual friend, Railen’s father. That misadventure ended with his father’s death and a rift between Galain, the elf she thought was her father, and Shadow. When it was time for the companions to go their separate path, Shadow chose to go with Railen, a decision that Galain hated. Together they brought a sense of peace to each other before they parted ways again. Over the years they reunited, sometimes as lovers, other times simply as best friends, always knowing what they felt for each other and not worrying whether what they did was right or wrong, they simply loved. She was his Telepaiwë, his Little Silver bird, and she calling him her Phelan Lhach, her Wolf leaping flame.

Railen was Shadow’s best friend and part of her tanaii, the path that she has chosen, but not part of her tanaii-ka, the path that was chosen for her. He came second to her children, and in a way to her husband, as she was suppose to, and she knew it pained him, which in turn tore at her. Fate, however seems to refuse to let them live their lives in peace, throwing them together and ripping them apart again.

There have been a few times when darkness has crept over Railen, and each time Shadow has been there to see it, each time she has been in danger and each time she has willingly gone to him, knowing that he could never truly hurt her, never truly put her in danger. Or so she thought. Once Railen reunited with his first love, his life took a turn toward darkness in which he craved to become a god. It was the last test of their friendship that not only brought about the destruction of her husband Suriel, but also the death of herself. If it had not been for An’Thaya Shadow would never have been brought back to life.

Shadow has not forgiven Railen for this betrayal, and perhaps never will.

She bears two scars, a silver star like scar on the left side of her throat and a silver tear over her heart, each from Railen’s own dagger and hand. The latter mingled their blood more so than their sibling bond, forever tying him to the Silverleaf tapestry, the emerald thread that represents him glows brightly in her mind like a beacon, letting her know when he is near. Shadow also bears a silver wolf on the inside of her left wrist, that was created when they first bonded. Railen bears the counter part, a silver bird, on palm of his left hand.

After Shadow's second death and resurection, the bond between Shadow and Railen was lost, however he still remains a part of the tapestry. Shadow's mark has since faded.

Are You Happy Now? by Michelle Branch

Now, don't just walk away
Pretending everything's ok
And you don't care about me
And I know there's just no use
When all your lies become your truth and I don't care... yeah, yeah, yeah

Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased,
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?

You took all there was to take,
And left me with an empty plate
And you don't care about it, yeah.
And I have given up this game
I'm leaving you with all the blame cause I don't care, yeah, yeah yeah,

Could you look me in the eye?
And tell me that you're happy now, oohh oohhh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased,
Are you happy now? Ohhh, ohhhh
Are you happy now?

Do you have everything you want?
You could never give something you aint got
You can't run away from yourself

Could you look me in the eye?
and tell me that you`re happy now, oohh oohhh
come on tell it to my face or have i been erased,
are you happy now? Ohhh, ohhhh
are you happy now?

Would you look me in the eye?
Could you look me in the eye?
I've had that all I can take
And I'm about to break
Cause I'm happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Are you happy now?
